NEWS LETTER APRIL 2018
Next Meeting
Wednesday 4th April at 7.45 in Watlington Town Hall
Speaker: Charlotte Fyfe
‘In Praise of Apples’
Apples are, apparently, our favorite fruit, so there should be something for everyone. Charlotte Fyfe is also bringing some fresh eggs from her hens to sell.
Last Month
In her talk, ‘Plants for Bees’, Rosi Rollings told us how she moved from a high powered, high paid job in the City to running a Nursery for bee friendly plants, to becoming a bee keeper and to doing research in her ‘field’ behind the nursery on which plants really attract the most bees by just counting how many bees were visiting each group of plants at any one time.
Inspired by Rosi’s talk we have arranged a visit to her Rosybee Nursery in East Haney on Wednesday 27th June at 3pm (a date that Rosi thinks will be maximum bee). She will give us a tour of the site, an identification workshop, bee spotting and identification and a form to tick them off. There will also be plants to buy. The price is £4.00 which includes tea. There are a maximum of 15 places, on a first come first served basis. This will be a car share visit. The Registration Form is below.
Plant Table: As things are growing fast in the garden now I hope you can bring along some plants to sell at our plant table and bring some money to buy them.
VISITS.
The coach trip to Miserdon Park Gardens, which I told you about in the March Newsletter is still open, the form is below for anyone who wants to register. The date is Wednesday 11th July and the cost including coach, entrance, an introductory talk and a map of the gardens, is £25.00 for members. It is not a NT property so no discount I’m afraid.
Apart from the Miserdon Park visit and the trip to Rosybee Nursery we have arranged a car share visit to The Old Rectory nr. Wantage for the Tuesday 19th June. We have not finalized details so there is no Registration Form yet, but put the date in your diaries. And here is a taster about it: there are a series of immaculately tended garden rooms, herbaceous borders, arboretum, boules, shady garden, pool and vegetables and a new Bog Garden.
Tea and Coffee
We are going to continue for the time being with having tea and coffee before the meeting.
Adwell Daffodil Day.
For an afternoon out visit Adwell Garden (OX9 7DQ) on Sunday 8thApril between 2.30-5.00pm. Entrance is £5.00, children free and includes tea and cakes. All proceeds to Sobell House Hospice.
