Last Month: Chris Day talk about The Productive “Cut YourOwn” Garden. He explained which were the best flowers to grow for cutting, how to make them last in the vase and how best to grow them. And he bought lots of bulbs to sell. Below is a list of the plants he mentioned in his talk:
GARDEN VISITS: We now have two garden visits to offer you this summer: CHIVEL FARM, Heythrop, Chipping Norton, OX7 5TR on Thursday 29th May at 2.30. We visited this garden in August 2023, it was so stunning with colour themed beds, a parterre, a manicured lawn meandering between the beds that we are returning.
PETIFFERS. Church Close, Wardington, Banbury, OX17 1RU on Thursday 26th June at 2.30. A beautiful garden with numerous borders, different levels, hedges, and yew topiary. It was featured last year on Gardeners World.
PROMOTING THE CLUB We are looking for someone who can help us promote the Club and encourage new members to join. Do you think you could do this, have you experience is marketing, promoting a venue or event, or fund raising, do you have good ideas as to how we can reach new members? You do not have to join the Committee. If you think you can help us please let me know, my contact details are at the head of Newsletter.
EXTRA GARDEN WASTE COLLECTION Possibly because they have put up the annual fee for the brown bin, SODC will collect extra garden waste during the fortnight 31 March – 11 April. If you live in Watlington the date for us is Tuesday 1st April. You are allowed to leave out the equivalent of four black bags (or it can be left in cardboard cartons). Leave the bags open and next to your bin. Your bin must have the new sticker or it will not be emptied.
PLANT TABLE We will have a Plant Table so bring any cash so you can buy some plants. May’s speaker will be bringing plants to sell so there will not be a plant table in May so bring any plants you have this month.
Next meeting: Our May meeting is on Wednesday 7th May when Paul Green will talk about Seasonal Planting and he will bring plants to sell.
