NEWSLETTER APRIL 2026 Next Meeting Wednesday April 1st at 7.45pm in the Sport Pavilion OX49 5BZ Speaker: Sandy Primrose
Sandy Primrose is returning to talk to us about The Story of Tulips. Sandy is one of our better speakers as you will remember. Tulips, which originate in Asia, have a big presence in the Middle East and a turbulent history in Europe. It should be interesting.
Last Month: We had a change of speakers at the last minute as our scheduled speaker had doubled booked, but Richard Schmidt stepped in at the last minute and gave us a list of simple tips and activities we can do to Garden for Wildlife.
GARDEN VISITS: We have three garden visits booked for this summer. Here are the dates so you can put them in your diaries. Details will follow in the next Newsletter.
KIFTSGATE: Thursday 25th June in the afternoon. WARDROBES HOUSE: 14th July in the afternoon STOCKCROSS HOUSE: 26TH August
OPEN WILDLIFE GARDENS: The Watlington Environment Group and the Watlington Climate Action Group are organising an Open Wildlife Gardens Day in Watlington with the aim of encouraging and inspiring people to do more for wildlife in their own gardens. Would you like to open your garden? It does not have to be perfect or completely wild, it just needs some features that are good for wildlife.
On the day someone needs to be available to welcome visitors and show then wildlife friendly aspect of your garden. The date will be decided depending on availability and avoiding clashes with other events, but they will aim for early Summer. If you are interested, please let them know as soon as possible by contacting [email protected] and tell them your preference.
EXTRA GARDEN WASTE COLLECTION SODC will collect extra garden waste during the fortnight 20 April - 1 May. If you live in Watlington the date for us is Tuesday 28th April. You are allowed to leave out the equivalent of four black bags (or it can be left in cardboard cartons). Leave the bags open and next to your bin. Your bin must have the 2026-7 sticker or it will not be emptied.
PLANT TABLE We will have a Plant Table so bring any extra plants you may have and cash so you can buy some plants too.
Next meeting: Our May meeting is on Wednesday 6th when Vanessa Berridge will talk about Kiftsgate. Very timely as we are planning to visit in June.
