NEWS LETTER JUNE 2018
Next Meeting
Wednesday 6th June at 7.45 in Watlington Town Hall
Speaker: Lynda Warren
The title of Lynda Warren’s talk is ‘A Spoonful of herbs’. She covers their history and practical and unusual uses of herbs, her talk begins with an investigation into the people who taught us about herbs, from the Ancient Egyptians and Romans, through to the Indians and Chinese, the European physicians of the Middle Ages and own British herbalists. She also explores herbs as used in: flavouring foods, perfumes and beauty products, household applications and medicines. Four plants will be covered in detail: Mint, Rosemary, Bay and Lavender.
Last Month
John Amand gave us an interesting talk, ‘Useful Bulbs and How they Get to your Garden’.
He really knew about bulbs, he told us about unusual ones and how to get the best results and showed us what they can look like with his slides. Best advice as far as I was concerned, all those ugly old allium leaves can be removed as once they start to go yellow.
