Speaker: Chris Day
Chris Day from Buckingham Garden Centre will return to give us a talk titled The Productive “Cut YourOwn” Garden. He will tell us how to make a patch for a cutting garden. He has worked in commercial horticulture, garden centre retailing and worked on, written for and edited consumer gardening magazines, so he has lots of experience.
February 2025: At our last meeting Timothy Walker told us about “Euphorbias”. As always with Timothy it was very entertaining and funny and we did learn about Euphorbias too.
GARDEN VISITS: We are already starting to organize garden visits to offer you as the most popular gardens do get booked up. We will be sending the applications for visits next month. CHIVEL FARM, we have booked a visit for Thursday 29th May. More details will come later so put the date in your diaries.
BENSON GARDENING CLUB Don’t forget that they have invited us to a talk on Thursday 6th March by James Alexander-Sinclair on The Principles of Planting. At Benson Parish Hall, Sunnyside, Benson at 7.45pm, door opens 7.15pm. Visitors pay £12.00. Tickets are available either at Derrys Den, High Street, Benson or by emailing them at [email protected]
CHANGES TO GARDEN WASTE COLLECTIONS. I mentioned last month that SODC are introducing a new annual permit scheme and sticker for you bin for garden waste collections. From 1 April 2025, you must purchase both by going to www.southandvale.gov.uk/GardenWastePermit. In future everyone will pay at the same time each year through the website. There will no longer be any direct debits, if you already have some time left on your old payment you will get a deduction from your April payment. If you are not connected to the internet nor have an email you can phone01235 422600 Remember without the sticker your bin will not be collected.
OPEN GARDENS Terry Jackson is hoping to re-activate the Open Gardens in Watlington in September this year. If any of you would like to open your garden please contact her directly. [email protected]. This is not the NGS, your garden does not have to be anywhere near perfect nor does it have to be big. It is advisable to have an independent entrance to the garden so you do not have the public traipsing through your house, and you will get more visitors if you are near the centre.
PLANT TABLE We will not have a Plant Table, it is a bit early in the year, and we expect that out speaker will be bringing plants from his nursery to sell.
Next meeting: Our April meeting is on Wednesday 2nd April when Catherine Dawson-Melcourt will talk about PeatFree Gardening.
