We continue our Japanese theme as Kate Woods(The tea break gardener) will talk about Japanese Gardens and Cherry Blossom. Whereas on the whole our gardens aim to just look beautiful, Japanese gardens are full of symbolism and formal features. It should be very interesting. Last Meeting: Dan Winter told us about Evenley Wood Gardens through the seasons and its history. He is the head gardener so knew his stuff. I am hoping lots of you have been motivated to visit the garden with us this month.
VISITS: The garden visit to Evenley Wood Gardens on May 9th at 2pm is still open so do sign up. It should be lovely with rhododendrons. The form is below.
Our second garden visit for Tuesday 4th June at 3pm to Lime Close is also open for booking. It is a lovely garden with lots of interesting plans and features. Again the form is at the end.

PLANT TABLE: We will have a plant table this month so if you have any extra plans to sell do bring them along.
WATERPERRY GARDEN Waterperry has an amazing programme of events this year going right through to Christmas. You can find more information on them at their What’s On page on www.waterperrygardens.co.uk . Here are two garden themed events coming up, and you do have to pay the garden entrance fee:
Waterperry Saxifraga Day - Sat, 25th May, 10am - 4pm. “See the largest collection of Saxifraga in the UK. Saxifrage are a wonderful and diverse group of plants – don’t miss The Silver Saxifraga which will be in flower at this time. Come and talk to the experts and browse our plant sales, take a tour of the Alpine nursery and view our collection of 400+ Hostas”. Rare Plant Fair – 2024 - Sun, 9th June, 10am - 4pm. “A chance to browse stalls manned by experts specialising in both rare and traditional plants, all in the beautiful setting of Waterperry Gardens. You may buy your tickets on arrival at the gate with no need to pre-book, Adult tickets £11.50, including the Gardens and Fair; Children 16 years and under are free”.
Wildlife Gardening. - The Watlington Climate Action Group have regular Green Drinks informal discussion group meetings in the Tipi at the Spire & Spoke. The theme of their May meeting on Monday 20th at 7.30pm is ‘Wildlife Gardening’. Entrance is free. Chalgrove Plant Fair – A Plant Fair is being held in Chalgrove in aid of the church fabric on Saturday 25the May 10am -12 noon, in the car park behind the Crown Pub, Chalgrove High Street. Plant donations received from 9am. There’s secateurs sharpening too.
Next Meetings: On Wednesday 5thth June Lucy Bradley will talk about Climate Change and our Gardens.
