CHAIRMAN’S REPORT - OCTOBER 1ST 2020
I hope you are all keeping well and occupied and that your gardens have benefitted from lots of work.
In view of the ongoing dangers and restrictions caused by Covid-19 and as we have not been able to meet
for eight months now,
the Watlington Gardening Club Committee has decided to circulate a report to you all to keep you up to date.
AGM: Our Constitution indicates we should hold an AGM on the first Wednesday of September,
as this was not possible we are postponing it until next year.
MEMBERSHIP: All membership will be rolled over until next year and no subscriptions will be charged this month.
This will be reviewed if we are able to re-start speaker meetings next year.
COMMITTEE: With no AGM to elect the Committee members,
they will continue to serve for the next twelve months.
FINANCIAL STATEMENT: Our balance is still healthy.
MEETING AND VISITS: We managed to have four speaker meetings in our 2019-2020 season including a December meeting with wine and mince pies. The Committee did discuss having a Summer Social in someone’s garden, this was before the ‘six’ rule, but we decided it was too risky as so many of our members are in the vulnerable age group.
We did however manage to have a very successful coach trip to visit Ashbridge Nurseries at the end of February. We were taken round the garden which despite the season looked beautiful and were shown how they propagate their Hellebores. It also has a very good nursery including unusual hellebores.
Over the last six weeks, with Jo Dudley’s help, we have arranged more activities for members: A visit to Stott’s Nursery near Ibstone where he has some unusual plants and a visit to Cedar House Garden in Wendover.
We have offered three more outings for this month:
10th October a Propagation Workshop at Stott’s Nursery,
15th October a visit to Acer Corner in Wendover, the name speaks for itself and
29th October an Autumn colour Walk and Talk at St Timothee.
The latter is booked up but there are still places for the first two.
We will continue to keep track of what is happening,
we do not know when we will again be able to have speaker meetings,
but I hope that next year we can continue to offer you all opportunities
to visit other gardens and nurseries.
