Next MeetingWednesday October 1st at 7.45pm in the Sport Pavilion
Talk by Catherine Dawson about Peat Free Gardening. We are always being encouraged to buy compost that is peat free, so her tips on propagation and growing without it will be useful.
LAST MONTH: we had our AGM and afterwards Kate Wood gave us a talk titled The Blitz as a Catalyst for Greening London. She is doing a part time PhD on the subject concentrating on Southwark so she was very passionate about it. Amazingly, the LCC during and after WWII used the bombing devastation in the East End of London to replace the streets of destroyed houses and factories with small parks and even compulsory purchased buildings to enlarge the green areas. This was to create open spaces, greenery and trees in some of the most overcrowded and unhealthy parts of the capital. ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTIONS: are due, this is a reminder if you have not paid. The subscription is still £22.00. Our preferred payment method is by bank transfer as per below. Or please bring cash or your cheque, if you prefer, to the meeting.

You can put out a maximum of four additional sacks of garden waste, per brown bin subscription, next to your brown bin. Please use standard sized (60L) black refuse-style sacks or boxes / containers which combined total no more than a standard bin full. Please DO NOT use bags larger than 60l (including one tonne builders’ type waste bags), they are too heavy and will not be collected. All the garden waste collected will be taken to a facility near Wallingford where it is composted. The compost is then sold on to local farmers for use on their farmland as a soil conditioner.
