WATLINGTON GARDENING CLUB NEWSLETTER SEPTEMBER 2024 Next Meeting Wednesday September 3rd at 7.45pm in the Sport Pavilion AGM followed by a talk given by Kate Woods AGM: All members are invited to the Watlington Gardening Club AGM which will take place before the talk. Attached you will find copies of the Agenda and the minutes of last year’s AGM and the Financial Statement. Kate Wood’s, or the Tea break Gardener runs a blog of that name it contains weekly diaries, plant profiles and how-to guides featuring her own photographs, she is also a specialists in garden history. Kate’s talk is called The Blitz as a Catalyst for Greening London - how the devastation of bombing created opportunities for new parks and gardens - including some surprising stories of what once lay beneath some of London's best-loved parks. ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTIONS: Traditionally we have collected the new season’s membership subscriptions in October so there was not a queue of people delaying the start of the September meeting already extended by the AGM. But now that most people pay on line we are asking members to pay this month at the beginning of the season. We have been able to hold the subscription at £22.00 for another year
RARE PLANT FAIR: The annual Rare Plant Fair at Adwell House, Thame, OX9 7DQ,is on Sunday 7th September from 11am to 4pm. Tickets cost £7.00 and can be bought at the door, there is no need to pre-book, the ticket also admits you to the garden. TALKS PROGRAMME AT WATERPERRY On Thursday 11th September the RHS Herbaceous Plant Expert Group will be visiting Waterperry Gardens where members will be giving the talks below to the public, followed by a question and answer session. 1.30pm Ben Pope - Gender in the Garden He is Head Gardener at a private garden in Sussex for nearly 20 years. 2.15pm Rosie Yeomans - Late-Summer Flowering Perennials She holds the RHS Master of Horticulture and is a National Collection Coordinator for the conservation charity Plant Heritage. 3pm Questions and Answers with members of the Herbaceous Plant Expert Group
Normal garden admissions to Waterperry Gardens apply for this event. PLANT TABLE: There will be a Plant Table this month, so if you have any extra plants do bring them. And remember to bring some cash to buy plants and raffle tickets.
